Suggested Weekly Holiday Itinerary

With a wealth of things to do in the Devon area, we've put together another suggested weekly itinerary. You might want to pick and choose and take a few days off with such a busy schedule of places to visit! We've also included a couple of restaurants for evening meals on the weekend, that you may wish to try any day of the week.

Monday

Babbacombe Model Village
Start the week by visiting this incredible park full of miniature buildings, vehicles, gardens and people. The village is set in Torquay on over four acres of land, is full of life, movement and sound, and changes depending on the season of the year.
Babbacombe Model Village presents English life in the past, present and future. There are over 400 models of houses, factories, shops, vehicles and about 13,000 mini residents. This would be an ideal venue for a family with children, but there's plenty to interest adults too, both in the model village and in the surrounding gardens.

Seaton Tramway
After visiting Babbacombe Model Village, a ride on a historic tram is a good way of spending the rest of the day. Seaton Tramway offer different types of trams for interesting rides no matter the weather. A ride on the Seaton Tram will give you unforgettable views of nature reserves and the River Exe. The tramways operate between Seaton, Colyford and Colyton.

Tuesday

National Marine Aquarium
The Aquarium in Plymouth is a charity that aims to raise awareness of the oceans and the creatures that live there. There are three massive tanks with over 4,000 animals to see as well as the six main zones to visit: Explorocean, The Shallows, Atlantic Reef, Meditteranean Sea, Weird creatures and Coral Seas.

Lunch at Chloe's Restaurant
This French restaurant was created by Didier and his fiancé Jo. All dishes are freshly prepared from the finest local ingredients. All dishes can be accompanied by fine wines and champagnes. If you fancy dinner rather than lunch, you can enjoy the added entertainment of their pianist who plays every evening from 7.30 pm.

Wednesday

Dartmouth Castle
Dartmouth Castle is an English heritage owned coastal defence, built in 1481 and featuring state-of-the-art (for its time!) defences. It was the first Castle in Britain constructed for artillery. It is situated on the edge of the entrance to the Dart Estuary as it was built to protect Dartmouth harbour from an invasion. You can listen to tales from the Castle and view displays on the various eras the Castle spanned.

Lunch at The Wheelhouse
After an exciting visit in the Castle, there is a nice place in Dartmouth to have a meal – The Wheelhouse. Thursday

Stuart Line Cruises
Stuart Line Cruises offer boat trips from Exmouth, Topsham, Sidmouth and charter fishing trips. The trips are run throughout the year and offer relaxing River Cruises, Guided Wildlife Cruises and Day Trips. Also Bird Watching and Wildlife Cruises are available, especially for those interested in birds.

Lunch at the Rosetta
If you chose to finish the boat trip in Sidmouth, you might want to have lunch in an Italian restaurant La Rosetta, located on the High Street . The place is run by Saul and Julie who make sure their staff use the best quality ingredients to prepare tasty Italian dishes. The restaurant is one of the favourite places for both locals and visitors.

Friday

The Milky Way Adventure Park
Based in Bideford and a great place for a family day out. It’s an all weather attraction full of rides, slides and live shows. Shows include the beautiful Owls, animal races and Flying Ferrets. There is also a 205-acre working farm with planet of space for kids to muck around. Opening times and ticket prices on the website.

Lunch at the Surfed Out Lounge Bar & Bistro
|A Lounge Bar that appeals especially to those who like the laid back beach style. The Bar offers relaxed atmosphere, great bistro menu and fair trade coffee. Check this listing for more information.

Saturday

Coldharbour Mill
Visiting Coldharbour Mill near Cullompton will be a great opportunity to see a 200 year old spinning mill. The mill was built by Thomas Fox and is a rare example of Georgian architecture. It still produces high quality worsted knitting yarn on its machinery. It will be possible to see the spinning frames and power looms, the enterprise and how Thomas Fox’s attitude influenced his employees. More info on the website.

Dinner at China Orchids Restaurant
After the exciting visit in the Mill, have a tasty dinner at China Orchids Restaurant in Cullompton. The restaurant is set in the 18th century Georgian building and offers Cantonese, Peking & Szechuan Cuisine, as well as seafood dishes. You can also relax in the Bamboo Bar. More info here.

Sunday

River Dart Country Park
River Dart Country Park is situated within Dartmoor National Park in the area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The River Dart flows through the grounds and is a part of the Dartmoor Special Area of Conservation.
The Park is set on over 90 acres of woods, lakes, the River Dart and beautiful parkland. It is an ideal place for various outdoor activities. There is plenty to do for both kids and adults. Children can rough-and-tumble over space nets, swing through the trees on ropes or capture a pirate ship. There is a Toddlers’ Beach and Lilliput area for younger visitors. Adults can relax in this breathtaking scenery or have an adventure of their life offered by “Dare Devils”. They are instructor-supervised on-site activities including mega zip wire, high rope course, open boat canoeing and indoor climbing.

Dinner at the Agaric Restaurant
After an exciting day in the River Dart Country Park, an evening meal in the Agaric Restaurant in Ashburton seems like a good idea. The atmosphere in the restaurant is relaxed and informal. The food is of great quality, freshly prepared from local ingredients.
